On Saturday, the Make-A-Wish foundation will hold a “Wish Reveal” party for 13-year-old Will NeSmith at the Crag climbing gym in Franklin. His destination: the Aulani Disney Resort in Hawaii.

In June 2012, Will suffered a ruptured blood vessel in his brain while at summer camp in North Carolina. He spent 18 days in a coma, and has spent the last two years in rehabilitation relearning how to walk and talk.

Will also suffers from Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT), a genetic disorder that causes abnormalities in blood vessels.

“He still has a lot of intensive physical therapy to go through, but he has made ridiculous progress. He’s such a tough kid,” Ashley Warrington, Will’s “Wish Granter” through the Make-A-Wish foundation said.

According to Warrington, each child entered into the Make-A-Wish program is assigned two “wish granters” -- volunteers that make a child’s request become reality.

“We do a lot of the process work to make the wish come true. We meet the parents and talk to child to figure out one wish, then try to fit it in everyone’s schedule,” Warrington said.

This is Warrington’s eighth Make-A-Wish child in the two years she has volunteered with the company.

“It’s such a great organization. I had some time, wanted to volunteer, and started working here,” she said. “I love the concept of helping children who didn’t deserve the pain and suffering they went through, and trying to make their day brighter. It’s pretty special.”

Make-A-Wish is dedicated to granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Founded in 1980, the organization has granted more than 220,000 wishes in the United States.

“I know Will chose this particular spot because he wanted a Disney-themed vacation. Before his accident he was supposed to go on an Alaskan Disney cruise, but that never happened. In some way I think this makes up for missing that,” Warrington said.

While most reveal parties are true surprises, in Will’s case because of his extensive rehab schedule, he learned early that his wish would come true. That didn’t stop the Brentwood High School Hockey Club from planning a private “reveal party” to take place Saturday, however.

Will and 20 of his friends will attend the event at The Crag in Franklin at 8:30 p.m. The climbing gym was one of Will’s favorite spots before his accident.

The hockey club members will serve as hosts and present Will with his own jersey and hockey stick.

Papa Johns of Cool Springs is supplying the pizza, and the Cupcake Collection in Nashville will donate a variety of cupcakes.

Will, his parents and sister leave for the seven day vacation on March 17. The family also hosts Will Power 5K, a 5 kilometer race through downtown Franklin to help raise money for Will’s medical costs. The race will be held this year on April 5.
