Garrett Kellam, a senior forward on the Kansas City Jets hockey team, has been very active in service to his community during his four years at Central High School in St. Joseph, Missouri. Currently, he mentors grade school students, from low income families, at the Bartlett Youth Center after school three days a week. Garrett helps them with their homework, instructs their computer skills and leads the kids in physical activities until their parents can pick them up after work.

Garrett has always liked working with children. In the past, he worked with an autistic boy after school so his mother could finish the work day. Garrett finds his work rewarding; mostly because he is still a big kid and he enjoys making a typically boring part of the day productive and fun for his students.
