Dallas stays perfect in 3-0 win over Anaheim in game of the day

West Chester, Pa. – The Dallas Stars Elite stayed perfect at the Chipotle-USA Hockey Girls Tier I 19U National Championships with a 3-0 victory over the Anaheim Lady Ducks. Kendall Parker and Casey Moritz split time in net and combined for the shutout.

The Stars earned a number of chances in the first period, including a late power play opportunity, but every shot in the frame was denied by Anaheim goaltender Kaila Bush.

Early on in the second period, Dallas received a power play opportunity where they were able to break through. After a chance just squeaked by the right side of the net, a shot came from the point. The initial shot was stopped, but Kaylee Lewis was able to put home a backhander to make it 1-0. The goal was Lewis’ second goal in as many games.

After earning another power play opportunity, Dallas almost capitalized again as a backhand shot barely went wide again. Dallas took a penalty, but it proved not to be costly. In fact, the Stars scored twice on the ensuing 4-on-4.

The first strike came with 5:48 remaining in the period, as Megan Hildner was able to find the back of the net. It was Hildner’s first goal and second point of Nationals. Just 32 seconds later, Ashley Kokavec scored her first goal of the tournament which pushed the lead to 3-0, which is how the contest would ultimately end.

Both teams had chances in the third period, but both Bush and Moritz stopped everything in their path.

The Stars will try to continue their good start in a battle of unbeatens on Saturday, as they take on 2-0 Shattuck St. Mary’s. Anaheim will try to earn their first win of the tournament when they take on Team Illinois on Saturday night.
