ASHBURN & RESTON, VA – Forty of the best high school hockey teams will compete for the 2016 Toyota/USA Hockey High School National Championships in Northern Virginia this March, announced Steve Winter, President of Brotman | Winter | Fried, a McLean, VA-based PR, promotions, special events company that will serve as the event management team for the tournament.
The event will crown championship teams in two divisions with games played Thursday, March 17 through Monday, March 21, at the Ashburn Ice House and SkateQuest Reston ice rinks. The McLean High School Hockey Club will serve as the host organization and will compete in the championship event.
Over the next two months, teams will qualify for the National Championships by winning their respective league, state championships or qualifying tournaments. The teams are divided and will compete in two divisions based on their team dynamic: “Pure Teams,” comprised solely of players attending the same high school and “Combined Teams,” composed of players attending two or more high schools. Preliminary round games will be played on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with single-elimination quarterfinals and semifinals held on Sunday. The two championship games will be held Monday morning in Ashburn. Some of these athletes have previously competed in national competitions while others will be experiencing the event for the first time. All, however, will agree that this is the highest level of competition that these athletes will face at this stage in their careers.
All games are open to the public with tickets available for purchase at each rink. Week-long tournament passes are $40 (adults 18 to 64), $25 for seniors (65 and over), and $15 (youth 11 to 17). Single day admission is $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for youth. Kids ages 10 and under admitted free.
