Princeton qualified two teams for the 2017 USA Hockey Girls Tier II National Championships taking place in Troy, Michigan, also April 6-10, when its teams went 2-1 in the Atlantic District championship series.

Colonials Tier I 16U Prevail in Overtime

Caroline McGee stopped 32 of 33 shots to lead the Colonials to a sweep of the Philadelphia Junior Flyers.

McGee opened with a 14-save shutout in a 3-0 victory, then made 18 in a 2-1, overtime win.

Emily Abruzzese assisted the first goal and scored the next for a 2-0 lead after one period of the opener.

Saige Biddle’s goal in the first period held up for a 1-0 Junior Flyers lead for 39:57.

Aynsley Kaufman tied the game on an Abruzzese assist with 4:28 left in regulation, then Annabel Levinson scored the game-winner 1:54 into overtime.

Tier I 14U Series Goes To Third Game

The Colonials won a three-game series from the Philadelphia Junior Flyers.

New Jersey won the opener, 3-1. Philadelphia tied the series with a 4-3 victory. The Colonials then took the title with a 3-2 win in overtime.

Quakers Dominate Tier II 19U

Lindsey Coffey scored four goals, including both game-winners, as the West Chester Quakers overcame the Princeton Tiger Lilies, 5-1 and 4-1.

Coffey scored the first two goals of the opening win. Jessica Ciarrochi added an unassisted goal and an assist while Ariel Gold made 26 saves.

Coffey had two goals and two assists in the second game, breaking a tie on the power-play with 8:01 left in the second period, then scoring again with 10:01 left in the third.

Jordan Hower scored the first and last goals.

After Coffey gave the Quakers a 2-1 lead, they allowed just three shots in the third period.

The Quakers reached the championship series by beating the Montclair Blues in a pair of 5-1 games a week earlier behind a pair of big finishes.

Quakers coach Brian Cleary said his team has appeared to be “energized” by the ice cut between the second and third periods in the playoffs.

“Both games with the Blues were tight into the third, but then we opened it up,” Cleary said. “Even though we’re a short bench, we continued to do that [in the final].”

Princeton Rides Defense to Tier II 16U Title

Princeton allowed just one goal in the series, sweeping the New Jersey Colonials, 2-0 and 3-1.

Special teams produced all the scoring in game one.

Julie Patterson scored a goal on the power play, on an assist from Kat Horsley, midway through the first period. Cassie Campbell added an unassisted, short-handed goal midway through the second.

Kristin Weiland made 17 saves.

The Colonials took a 1-0 lead in the first period in game two, but Weiland, who made 28 saves total, stopped all 22 shots she faced over the last two periods.

Campbell, who had the game-winner at 2:19 of the second period, and Patterson, who scored unassisted, each had goals for the second straight game.

Sabrina Madsen had two assists.

Princeton Sweeps Tier II 14U

Princeton took a shutout into the final three minutes of both games while sweeping the Montclair Blues with a pair of 4-1 wins in the championship series.

Cheyenne Wilk assisted the first goal and scored the second for a 2-0 lead in the opener. Sarah Roggio made it 3-0 early in the third period and also added an assist.

Sophia Szelag made 16 saves, not allowing a goal until one minute remained.

The Tiger Lilies outshot the Blues, 28-8, in the first period and had a shutout until 2:46 remained in the second game.

Kylie Aquaro had two power-play goals and an assist.

Gia Seravelli added a goal and an assist.
