U.S. women's gold-medal victory earns Best Game honors

LOS ANGELES -- The gold medal-winning 2018 U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team earned the 2018 ESPY for Best Game for its 3-2 shootout victory over Canada in the gold-medal game at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. The team received the honored here tonight at the 2018 ESPYs at the Microsoft Theater.

The ESPYS (Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly) is an annual award show that honors sports and athletic achievement, both on an individual and team basis.


About The U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team

The U.S. Olympic Women's Ice Hockey Team earns the honor following its first gold-medal performance in 20 years at the Olympic Winter Games. 

At the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team defeated Canada, 3-2, in a shootout to win the gold medal on Thursday, Feb. 22, in Gangneung, South Korea. Leading up to the gold medal, Team USA carried a 3-1 victory over Finland, 5-0 win over Olympic Athletes from Russia, and a 2-1 loss to Canada in preliminary play before topping Finland, 5-0, in the semifinals. It marked Team USA's second ever gold medal after Team USA earned the inaugural gold medal in the event at the 1998 Olympic Winter Games in Nagano, Japan.

The U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team has medaled in all six Olympic appearances to date (gold – 1998, 2018; silver – 2002, 2010, 2014 and bronze – 2006).
