Tips on fueling players for their best performances

As teams arrive at the 2022 Chipotle-USA Hockey National Championships, we know athletes are preparing to put on their best performances as they compete at the highest level. Thankfully, our partners at Chipotle understand that what athletes eat is just as important as how they train. So, we've collaborated with USA Hockey's team sports dietician Carrie April, MS, RD, CSSD on some suggested items from the Chipotle menu to keep players fueled with real food for their best showing at Nationals. 


Best food choices for the tournament

Fuel yourself through the tournament weekend by choosing carbohydrate-based meals paired with lean proteins and antioxidant-rich vegetables to give your muscles and brain the energy they need for performance and recovery. 

  • Energy-boosting carbohydrates like Brown Rice
  • Lean proteins like Steak
  • Veggies like romaine, baby kale and baby spinach in the Supergreen Salad blend or the Fajita Veggies
  • Healthy fats like those found in the avocados used to make the Guacamole


  • Stick to mostly plant-based toppings like Salsa, Fajita Veggies, Corn Salsa, Lettuce and Guacamole
  • Choose small portions of items that take longer to digest like Sour Cream, hard-shell tacos and Beans
  • Chips, Queso and Quesadillas are tasty ways to celebrate at the end of the tournament


  • Brown Rice or soft tortillas for quality carbs that give you long-lasting energy
  • Chicken, Barbacoa, or Sofritas for lean proteins that promote recovery
  • Toppings like Salsa, Fajita Veggies, Corn Salsa, Lettuce and Guacamole for antioxidants
