WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. — Shattuck-St. Mary’s (MN) earned a second-consecutive title at the Chipotle-USA Hockey Girls Tier I 19U National Championship after defeating Rochester Youth Hockey at BK Selects (NY) 3-2 in an overtime thriller at Advent Health Center Ice on Sunday.

“I don’t think there’s any other group of kids in the country that sacrifice as much as these kids to,” said Gordon Stafford, head coach of Shattuck-St. Marys. “Regardless of how it ended up, we had a great season but to be able to win at the end makes it so much sweeter.”

Shattuck-St. Mary’s struck first just eight seconds into the contest when Jordyn Petrie picked the top left corner from the edge of the crease to provide her team with an early 1-0 lead.

Rochester responded at the 15-minute mark of the opening frame after Nela Lopusanova forced a turnover behind Shattuck’s net and Anabella Fanale set up Paige Wallace for a one-timer in front of the net.

Jillian Willis gave Rochester a 2-1 lead at 4:58 in the second period, sweeping a loose puck into the net following a shot from the point by Lucie Tenenbaum. Greta Brezenski picked up a secondary assist on the play.

Shattuck knotted tied the score 2-2 at 12:29 into the middle stanza, following a wrister from Kylie Amelkovich that beat the goaltender’s low glove side on a setup from Haley Box.

With 3:10 remaining in regulation, Shattuck went on the power play after Rochester was tagged for hooking. Despite ramping up a few shots on net, the score remained knotted at two apiece, and the contest headed into overtime.

At the 1:29 mark in the extra frame, Lauren Glaser scored the title-winning goal when she deflected a shot from Ella Muralt off a pass from Hannah Fetterolf.
